The Sheffield Institute Summer Scholars Program is the perfect way for current college students to learn about the marketing industry and develop real-world business skills in their respective discipline.
Sheffield is seeking a driven and passionate Graphic Designer Intern to hone their skills and improve their craft by doing real work all the while contributing to the success of a professional agency.
As a graphic designer intern you will design illustration and text layouts for visual communications media in a collaborative and creative atmosphere. The intern will take direction easily and have a passion for storytelling through visual media.
The internship will focus primarily on design while keeping the messaging strategy in mind throughout the design process. You will study determine size and arrangement of graphics and copy, select type, arrange layouts, draw samples.
The Graphic Design intern will learn first-hand how to work under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of adaptability and have a willingness to receive constructive feedback. Key success factors include an attention to detail, organizational skills and creativity that contribute to the effectiveness of the design process.
Sheffield is a boutique-marketing agency in Chicago’s West suburbs that specializes in messaging, video production and content development. We help organizations find their story and create compelling ways to package and tell it.
Position Description
The responsibilities of this internship position are:
- Design marketing materials from concept to delivery
- Utilize talents and skills to create cutting-edge designs that align with the relevant brand
- Contribute continuously to the creative process through collaboration and brainstorming
Minimum Job Requirements:
- An instinct for storytelling in a visually compelling way and excellent communication skills
- Ability to conceptualize a project from start to finish with high attention to detail
- Analytical thinker who can see how each story fits into the bigger picture
- Passion for design and eagerness to collaborate with other creative people
- Intermediate ability of Adobe CS5+ InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Word and PowerPoint.
- Self-motivated, organized and accountable
- Either entering Junior or Senior year working towards a BA in Fine Arts
- Must have design portfolio that demonstrates understanding of design as a communication tool, as well as the rules of typography and legibility
Bonus:
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, WordPress and other web design skills
- Flash or animation experience a plus
- Experience with copywriting or editing
