John Severance

John Severance is theProgram Director at the Sheffield Institute, where he leads talent development for young marketing professionals.

With more than 20 years of marketing experience, John brings a honed strategic vision to the Sheffield Institute. He served as vice president at Ketchum before joining Joe McCormack to found Sheffield Marketing Partners in 2006.

John leverages his deep industry experience to help young professionals navigate the evolving business of marketing. As a mentor, he stresses the importance of critical thinking and audience awareness in communications. His deep creativity and storytelling expertise are evident in his mentorship, and he challenges Institute members to develop critical thinking skills as a precursor to writing talents.

Born and raised on the West Coast, John earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master of Arts in Chinese Politics and Economics, both from the University of San Francisco. He spent his junior year of undergraduate school studying at Oxford University in England.
